Join Sewing Machine Warehouse for an afternoon of quilting and bag-making fun!

Teacher Alyssa Skolnick has created a fun scrappy vinyl bag. Get rid of those small pieces of cool fabric and create a upcycle bag.

First up create a new piece of fabric with all those cool scraps you have, get wild, and make something original.  Then turn that scrappy piece into fabric and create a bag with a vinyl outside to protect your beautiful creation.  

Required Supplies:

Scraps or mini pre-cuts (it is very important that you have SCRAP pieces - this is a scrap project)**
2/3 yards of fabric for lining and handles.  If you want to use nylon straps, only 1/2 yard for the lining.
1/2 yard of 10 gauge clear vinyl (.25mm thick)
1/2 yard of fusible batting (you can use strips of batting sewn together)
Optional:  1 1/2 yards (22" wide) fusible interfacing - if you want your lining to be a little stiffer.
Optional:  52" - 1 1/2" wide nylon strapping.  If you want your straps longer then add more strapping
Optional:  Magnetic Closure

Required Materials:

Sewing Machine
Rotary cutter with new blade plus mat to cut on
Pins to hold fabric scraps to batting if not using fusible batting
Thread to match fabric choices
Teflon foot (metal feet tend to stick on the vinyl, test before class) - no walking feet, they tear up vinyl
Sewing Clips (no pins on vinyl)
Microtex sharp needle - size 80
Denim needle (if your straps are thick)

Please have cut before class:

Two 15" squares of quilt batting
Two 17" squares of vinyl
Two 15" squares of lining fabric - if you want it interfaced - do before class
Two rectangles that measure 4 1/2" x 26" (or longer if you need longer straps - can be pieced together)
Optional:  Two nylon straps each 26" long (or longer if desired)

**The class time has one hour devoted to prepping the scrappy section of the quilt but the teacher has found some students need more time.  Note if you like to take your time and not be rushed when putting your scrappy pieces of fabric on or if you just like to take your time when playing with scraps - you might want to sign up for our Scrappy Vinyl Prep Class on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  We will give you time and space and some directions so that you can prep your fabric for Saturday's class.
